John Christian announced as new UC Band Director


Charleston, WV – The University of Charleston announced that, after an extensive search, it has hired John Christian as Director of University Bands. 

Christian has been tasked with building a pep band at the University with a goal of having a marching band in years to come.  He will also work with the Office of Student Life to bring another piece of student engagement to our institution and keep students involved in both the university and broader community.

Prior to his current appointment, he served as a PK-12 Fine Arts Chair and Music Educator at schools Kazakhstan, Morocco and the United States. He has also held higher education posts at Southern Catholic College, Barry University, Alma College, Kazakh National Conservatory and the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Christian earned a Bachelor of Music from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and Master of Arts from Central Michigan University. He also has done post-graduate study in Instrumental Conducting and Music Education at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
