Charleston, WV – At age 87, Michelangelo famously said, “I am still learning.”

Students in  the University of Charleston’s Financial Planning major will now not only have the opportunity to learn, but they will to participate in an in-depth training program in wealth management.

The University of Charleston is now a participating university with Envestnet Institute On Campus.

The partnership will provide up to 25 UC students with scholarships to participate in the program. They will be able to gain in-depth training in investment advisory with a focus on managed money solutions through an eLearning program. The content is provided by leaders in the financial services industry.

“Our new partnership with Envestnet further enhances the UC’s financial planning curriculum that is approved by the CFP® Board of Standards to qualify our graduates to sit for the CFP® certification exam,” said Dr. Scott Bellamy, Dean of the UC School of Business & Leadership. “With this partnership our students will now be even more prepared to fill a talent shortage in the asset and wealth management industry.”

The scholarship program is geared toward college and graduate-level student seeking a career in wealth management or related fields. It was created to train talented individuals and position them for employment across various areas of the industry.

“Through this program, students gain a strong understanding of the industry” stated Dr. Jacob Tenney, UC Financial Literacy and Financial Planning Program Director. “They will also learn how to converse intelligently, giving them an edge when it comes time to seek employment.”

The Envestnet courses will be integrated into the university’s Financial Planning program, assigned to the Financial Planning Capstone class. After successfully completing the course, students will have an opportunity to put their resumes in front of industry professionals searching for interns or new hires.
