Byron Johnson to speak at UC

Charleston, WV - Dr. Byron Johnson, a published expert on the role of faith-based communities in the various issues surrounding substance abuse and the role of spirituality in drug abstinence and recovery, will present “Spirituality and Drug Addiction” at the University of Charleston February 12.
Dr. Johnson has published a number of articles on the role of faith and service in helping addicts remain sober. He is recognized as a leading authority on the scientific study of religion, the efficacy of faith-based organizations, and criminal justice.
“Spirituality and Drug Addiction” will focus on what faith communities are doing to respond to drug abuse, and the role of faith in drug abstinence and recovery. Area ministers and faith leaders will also share brief information about programs they already have in place.
The event, sponsored by the Sims Foundation, is free and open to the public. It will be held in the Erma Byrd Gallery in Riggleman Hall. The event begins at 6:30 p.m.
