Bachelor of Art
The Secondary Special Education undergraduate degree allows students to obtain Multi-categorical Secondary Special Education certification with Content Endorsements in Mathematics, English, and Social Studies. Through this program, students will obtain 3 of the 5 Content Endorsements supported by the West Virginia Department of Education to meet the Highly Qualified teacher credential, which makes graduates more marketable.
Students who complete this degree will be prepared to teach Secondary Special Education in Social Studies, Mathematics, and English classrooms. This is certification in Multi-categorical Special Education only. It does not lead to certification in general Secondary Education.
NOTE: All UC students have the opportunity to obtain Secondary Multi-categorical Special Education certification regardless of their major. They must complete the Education Core Requirements, Special Education Requirements, and at least one of the content endorsement area options. Students should feel free to contact the Education Department (304-357-4707), if they are interested in this option.
UC's Education programs are accredited by the West Virginia Department of Education and the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP)/ Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC)
I really like that we start field placements in our freshman year. I got to see and work with so many wonderful teachers, and it helped me be sure I'd chosen the right major for me.
